The Leadership Team

Al McNicoll

Al lives in Horspath with his wife Caroline and their three children, and joined WCC as pastor in 2019. After 10 years running an IT business, Al responded to a call of God to start working for the Church, and served as an assistant pastor and school chaplain in Oxford before moving to WCC. He loves seeing the difference that Jesus makes to people's everyday lives, and is most fired-up by helping people get to know Jesus. He also loves chatting about the deeper things of life over a long walk up Shotover - or over a pint! He also loves music, good coffee and bad puns.

Jemima Spare

Jemima and her husband, Stephen live on Ladder Hill. Jemima and Stephen met and married in Oxford when they moved here after university.  Jemima works for the University of Oxford in IT Services. Before coming to WCC, she attended Woodstock Road Baptist Church for many years.

Gordon Ewbank

Gordon and his wife Jill live in Church Road and have two adult children, Francis & Claire. He has held a number of positions of Christian leadership, including co-leading a home-group, leading a worship group, PCC membership and acting as a trustee of several Christian organisations, including helping to coordinate Fusion’s local mission work in the Wheatley area over the last 15 years. He has been part of the WCC leadership team since the church was established in 2014 and during those early years has been hugely blessed by the friendship and support of others on the team and by all that God has done amongst us. At times it has been challenging but always a huge privilege to be a small part of building God’s kingdom in this community. Gordon is currently vice-chair of Wheatley Area Churches. In his work-life he has held senior management positions in business and developed an interest in how we should live out our faith in a secular work environment.

Dan Evenhuis

Dan Evenhuis

Dan and Danni live in Waterperry with their four children aged 8 to 15. Prior to coming to the UK Dan taught maths and science in Tasmania for 7 years, 3 of those teaching ‘at-risk’ A-Level students. From 2001 to 2013 Dan was in full-time ministry with Fusion Youth and Community, an international Christian organisation. Dan has supported teams in over 30 communities in the UK helping run over 80 community fundays, many youth cafés and clubs, annual Celtic Pilgrimages and training in youth and community work. Dan is now the Head of IT for a national Christian Charity but sees the local Christian outreach as a major part of his ministry.

Tim Hinks

Tim and his wife Naomi live with their four children in Forest Hill. They have been involved with three previous church plants in Oxford, Southampton and most recently Melbourne. He has been involved in the leadership and teaching in these churches. Tim now works as an academic clinician (a doctor and a scientist studying lung diseases) but has been involved in various ministries including work as a student staff worker for the Christian Medical Fellowship which involved apologetics, discipleship, evangelism and equipping and training student groups in UK and aboard. Tim has an interest in bible teaching, interactive Bible studies, science-faith apologetics and youth discipleship.

Brian Wickens

Brian joined the leadership team in Sept 2019. He is married to Liz and they have 2 children, Emily and Ollie who are currently at university. They have lived in Wheatley for 15 years and attended WCC from its start. Brian was imported from N Ireland many years ago, works in London and enjoys most sports and travel. Together with Liz, they lead our teenage work here in WCC. He became a Christian as a young child and, since then has been learning to love Jesus a little more each year.
